CDMA-based cellular operator PT Mobile-8 Telecom Tbk (FREN) is planning to establish 1,500-2,000 base transceiver stations (BTS) this year in a bid to broaden coverage. In addition, FREN will prepare Rp2 trillion of investment.
Mobile-8 President Director Merza Fachys, as reported by medias today, the investment will use remaining proceed of Rp3.7 trillion rights issue.
"By adding BTSs, we expect the total number of BTS will reach 3,000-4,000 units in 2011," he said.
Mobile-8 calculated that one BTS requires Rp500 million of investment. The operator claimed that total subscribers reached 3 million at end of last year.
Mobile-8, which was just acquired by PT Smart Telecom, controlled by Widjaja's family, plans to broaden its coverage from Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.
